Hackers target Salvadoran websites

President's website received 30 million hits on Saturday in a DoS attack. Anonymous, an online 'hactivist' group, attacked the government websites of El Salvador, forcing many of them to shut down.
Named "Operation Justice El Salvador", it was carried out two weeks after Anonymous threatened to attack several government websites.

The website of the president was shut down after it received 30 million hits on Saturday in a denial-of-service (DoS) attack. Websites for the legislative assembly, the civil police and the ministries of justice, economics and labour were the other targets. The ministry of the economy said that Anonymous tried to attack their website to publicise the private information of internal and external users.

Recently, Anonymous also reportedly targeted the websites of other governments, such as Algeria, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Syria etc., claiming to oppose greed and corruption. It has also endorsed its support to the Occupy Wall Street protests and WikiLeaks expose.
