How to hide hard drives in Windows

     You might be having sensitive data stored on a particular disk drive that you don’t want anyone to see. The best way to protect it from others is to hide it by removing the drive letter assigned to it. This can be achieved easily using Command Prompt:-

Process:-

1) Start >> Run >> Type cmd >> press Enter

2) Type diskpart in the command prompt and press Enter

3) Type list volume.

 

4) Suppose you would like to hide drive E, then, for eg. check the value besides it and type select volume 2

5) Now type remove letter E

(Diskpart will now remove the drive letter. The drive will no longer be available via Windows Explorer or My Computer.)

Note-Don’t worry though, your data remains safe!

Now, you might want to unhide the drive and make it accessible again, just repeat the above process.

6) But instead of typing remove letter E, type  assign letter E.

2. Now you’re going to want to type this into the address bar at the top of the Explorer window: Windows\globalization\mct

3. This will open a window that has five different folders contained in it. Click the first folder open, then scroll down and open up the Theme folder, and you’ll see the theme in there. Each of those five folders have a theme inside. 

4. These extra themes are simple to Install (Just Double click on the theme file in the theme folder) to your themes directory, and they’re all gorgeous.

5. So go on!! just unlock these themes and Enjoy !!

1) Open the registry editor.

2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SOFTWARE >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion

3) Click on CurrentVersion, and look to the right-side pane.

4) The value in the field ProductId resembles the CD Key of your Windows Opearating System

Hide all Icons in the notification area

      System tray, also known as the notification area, is the small area to the extreme right side of the taskbar from where you can see the time alongwith other programs that run in the background. Although it notifies about ongoing programs, we do not keep these programs as frequent as to keep over there with such priority. There is a method to hide all the icons that are being displayed in the system tray.

Follow the following steps:

1) Go to Start >> Run >> regedit

2) Go to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> Software >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion >> Policies >> Explorer

3) Now in the right pane, right-click and go to New >> create a new DWORD value and name it - NoTrayItemsDisplay exactly.

4) Double click it and set a value its value as 1 (Setting the value to 0 will display the icons)

5) Exit registry and reboot.

Reduce the wait time while shutting down XP

     While shutting down, XP has to "kill" some live applications or processes that might be currently running. So close all applications first. But still there might be some applications and processes that might be still running in the background. You can reduce amount of time that Windows XP waits for those applications and processes to close before Windows XP kills them. To reduce this time considerably follow these simple steps:-

1) Go to Start >> Run >> regedit

2) Go to HKEY_USERS >>.DEFAULT >> Control Panel >> Desktop.

3) Click on Desktop. In the right pane, set "WaitToKillAppTimeout" value to 1000 and also set the "HungAppTimeout" to 1000.

4) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet|Control. Set "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" to 10000.

5) Close the registry editor.

Add My Computer Taskbar at the top of your desktop

     This a very simple trick but very rarely used. Using this trick you can add a taskbar at the top of your desktop and directly access it's content just by a click. For example, if you want to make your drives easily accessible from the desktop, instead of making your desktop messy by adding shortcuts, you can add a my computer tasskbar to your desktop.

Steps:-
1) Click on Start.
2) Drag the My Computer icon from the start menu to the extreme top of your desktop and hold it. You'll be able to get a  taskbar as above.You can resize it, set it to auto-hide so that it does not interfere with other windows.

     Similarly you can add new toolbars to your desktop by right clicking on the taskbar you have created using the above procedure, then go to Toolbars>New Toolbar... and select the drive or folder you want to see in the toolbar.

Access two Gmail accounts at once in the same browser

     Gmail accounts allows people to access only one account at a time per browser. You might either have to sign out of the first account and den sign in to second or use to different browsers for each account. 

How is this possible?

1) Visit google.com/accounts 

2) Sign into your first account. 

3) You will be able to see this page.

4) Click on Edit.

5) Tick mark everything and click on Save.

6) With this, you can sign in to two additional accounts from the new accounts menu in the upper right hand corner of Gmail, then easily toggle back and forth between them. 

 7) You can even open multiple Gmail tabs — one for each of your accounts if you wish.

NOTE: This is a feature for advanced users, and hence there are a few more things you need to watch out for:

1) Not all Google services support multiple account sign-in yet. For the services that don't support it (like Blogger and Picasa Web Albums), you'll be defaulted to the first account you signed in with during that browser session. So if you click a link from Gmail to Blogger, For example, you'll be logged into Blogger with the first account you signed in with, even if you clicked the link to Blogger from your second Gmail account.
