Unable to open C:/ or D:/ drive or any hard drive on double-click

     Sometimes it happens in windows XP, when you double-click on the drives icons or right click on the drive>>explore in My computer, the drive does not open.

Method 1:-

     It caused by the virus that infected your system and restricted the access to your drives. Normally, virus automatically creates a file named autorun-inf in the root directory of each drive. This autorun.inf file is a read only, hidden and a system file and the folder option is also disabled by the virus. This is deliberately done by the virus in order to protect itself.

      To solve this problem, just delete autorun.inf
1. Open Start>>Run and type cmd and press enter. This will open a command prompt window. On this command prompt window type the following steps.
2. type cd\
3. type attrib -r -h -s autorun.inf
4. type del autorun.inf
5. now type d: and press enter (for d: drive partition). Now repeat steps 3 and 4.
Similarly, repeat step 5 for all your hard disk partition.

Restart your system and your trouble will be fixed.

Method 2:-

1) Go to Start >>Run >> type gpedit.msc
2) Go to User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Click on Windows Explorer.
3) Change the property of Prevent access to hard drive from My Computer to Disabled.
 4) Refresh and your issue is solved.

Hide folders in a different way

No Need of any folder lock or Any Damn Punk Softwares. A simple unknown trick could help you.

Method 1:-

1) Right Click on the desktop and Make a new folder
2) Now rename the folder with a space(U have to hold ALT key and type 0160).
3) Now u have a folder without a name.
4) Right click on the Folder >> Properties >> Customize. Click on change icon.
5) Scroll a bit, u should find some empty spaces, Click on any one of them.
click ok Thats it, now u can store ur personal data without any 3rd party tools.

Method:2

1) U can also hide ur folder by dis method:- Open Start >> Run >> CMD
2) Now type attrib +a +s +h C:/name of d folder u want to hide(Path of the Directory).
  Eg. attrib +a +s +h C:/Program Files/New Folder

3) Now even in the folder option even if Show all Hidden folders is selected still u wont be able to see dis folder.
Reason:- It is because the directory will get the attribute of a system file.

4) To unhide the same folder.
i) Type same command just put "-" instead of "+" .
Eg:-  attrib -a -s -h C:/Program Files/New Folder

2.Go to Tools >> Folder Options >> View and uncheck the Hide Protected operating system files.
Thats it, you can retrieve it back

Beware of fake Microsoft Security Essentials

Microsoft Security Essentials is a legitimate antimalware app, but a new rogue antivirus attack hijacks the brand as well

     Microsoft Security Essentials is a free anti malware protection program from Microsoft, but a new malware threat identified by security software vendor F-Secure is also masquerading as Microsoft Security Essentials. You need to avoid that one.

     The new malware attack is distributed through a drive-by download as either hotfix.exe or mstsc.exe, but as both sound to be legitimate file names that might not raise red flags with some users.

     The "alert" from the threat steals the Microsoft Security Essentials brand, including the little blue fortified castle icon. The software then displays a seemingly comprehensive list of anti malware solutions, including all of the top names that users are familiar with such as Trend Micro, McAfee, Panda, and Symantec and identifies those that are capable of detecting and blocking this nefarious threat.

      The F-Secure blog explains, "Surprisingly, the only products that seem to be capable of handling the infection are AntiSpy Safeguard, Major Defense Kit, Peak Protection, Pest Detector and Red Cross. Never heard of these? No wonder. They are all fake products."

      The attackers are counting on users being naive enough to take the bait and agree to be "saved" by purchasing one of these awesome anti malware tools to help eradicate the threat. But, since these are all rogue antivirus programs what you really end up with is some sort of Trojan that opens the system up to further malware compromise and exploit.

      Legitimate Microsoft Security Essentials is an anti-malware application. It is offered for free by Microsoft, and is in fact a very capable defense against malware. Microsoft just recently expanded the availability of Microsoft Security Essentials to small businesses as well, making it free to install on up to ten PCs.

     F-Secure detects this new rogue Microsoft Security Essentials threat as Trojan.Generic.KDV.47643.

Mobile Web Surfers Beware of Scams : TASHAN WAP

With the advent of GPRS & EDGE we have increasing numbers of Mobile Web surfers and hence increasing number of scams.

No doubt all of us use our mobile web for one means or other. But when you think of downloading something from a WAP Portal or other mobile sites, beware of some links saying "Free Wallpapers, Ringtones, etc". Dont click on the link as this is a Scam.

The Details are as follows:
When you click on this link you will be redirected to a portal called TASHAN and immediately Rs.20 or 25 will be deducted from your account and you will not get any content for download.
This wont stop here. It will automatically go on deducting balance from you account or add credit to your bill every week. This is a scam and you have no way to stop it.
Every week you will receive a message about your deducted amount and a link to unsubscribe it which unfortunately is fake and you won't be able to unsubscribe it. Even your operator can't help because its a third party application.
Any ways there if you are one of the victims of this there is one way to get rid of it.
What you have to do is type a message with text UNSUB BHAKTI / FILMY / CRICKET / GAME any of which you have subscribed to (type one of them) and send it to 57772.
Eg: UNSUB BHAKTI and send to 57772
You will be unsubscribed to it.

Enjoy Mobile Surfing and Surf Safe.

Ran out of space in Gmail?? Gain some extra space…

Has your email inbox run out of storage space??And now u urgently need to free up space to avoid mails from returning to the sender…
The most basic thing you need to do now is by more space from Google. And we don’t think this makes sense
Now you will think to delete the mails and that too the massive or bigger ones. But did you know unfortunately Google has no way to sort emails according to size.
But there is a new service called findbigmail.com that can help you easily filter out all the big mails in your inbox.

To get started you simply connect your Gmail account with Find Big Mail using Google’s OAuth-this means you don’t have to share your Google Account credentials with the service. It then scans all your existing mails and will send you notification once the scanning is done. (Ours took around 4 minutes).
That’s it! You can now login to your Gmail account and Trash Forward mails marked with “Big Mails” to instantly reclaim some precious space.

hAckERs hIT "KAspErSKy" wEbsITe on 17th October, 2010

     On Sunday scammers hit the website of Kaspersky Lab, a well-known antivirus vendor. Someone took advantage of a bug in a Web program used by the Kasperskyusa.com website and reprogrammed it to try and trick visitors into downloading a fake product, Kaspersky confirmed Tuesday. Kaspersky didn't identify the flaw, but said it was in a "third-party application" used by the website.

     "As a result of the attack, users trying to download Kaspersky Lab's consumer products were redirected to a malicious website," the antivirus vendor said. The website caused a pop-up window to appear that asked for a virus scan of the user's PC, and offered to install an antivirus program that was in fact bogus.

     This is a typical trick for fake-antivirus scammers, who are constantly looking for new ways to trick victims into buying their products. In the past they've been known to pose as legitimate online advertisers and then suddenly switch their ad inventory from legitimate-looking ads to these fake pop-up messages.

     Security experts say the safest thing to do when one of these fake antivirus messages pops up is to simply kill the Web browser. On Windows, this can be done by hitting ctrl-alt-delete and ending the browser process in the Task Manager.

     According to Kaspersky, its website was redirecting users to the rogue antivirus site for about three-and-a-half hours Sunday. In discussion forums, users complained that the site was trying to download fake antivirus software called Security Tools.

     This isn't the first time Kaspersky has had to audit its websites after an incident. In February 2009 a hacker was able to break into the company's U.S. support site after discovering a Web programming flaw. That flaw could have given the hacker access to customer e-mail addresses and product activation codes via a common attack technique called SQL injection.

     Nobody's information was compromised in Sunday's attack, Kaspersky said. "Our researchers are currently working on identifying any possible consequences of the attack for affected users, and are available to provide help to remove the fake antivirus software."

Best tool to Hide Programs even from Task Manager

1) WinHide is a superb software that helps to quickly hide the working programs and windows instead of closing it

2) The hidden programs are not displayed in the Taskbar or in Ctrl+Alt+Del list (ie.Task Manager) and they cannot be activated pressing Alt+Tab, but programs continue with their execution.

3) You can hide and restore programs using keyboard shortcuts, WinHide System Tray menu or the WinHide window.

Eg. Suppose you have opened a lot of Internet Explorer windows at the same time, and for one moment you need to use some other program, but you find it difficult as the whole screen will be filled with Explorer windows.
     You press a Hotkey and suddenly there are no Internet Explorer windows on the desktop, so you can work with other program. When you are finished, you can press the same Hotkey and all your IE windows reappear.

Features:-
1) WinHide protects your privacy and prevent your information from being seen by anyone else.

2) It allows you to work calmly without worrying about uninvited visitors. While your applications are hidden, they still work and you can show them at any time.

3) You can set hotkeys for basic software commands:
   i) Hide/Show active window,
   ii) Hide/Show all windows,
   iii) Hide/Show a group of windows.
You can specify groups of windows by their title text and set hotkeys for them.

For Eg. a group can comprise all windows that have Internet Explorer in their title text. WinHide can also work in hidden mode, not making anyone know that it is there or optionally can put an icon in the system tray for a quick access.

BCCI President N Srinivasan's cell phone hacked or spoofed ??

Here's the original news:

     Chennai: Following a complaint by BCCI president-elect N Srinivasan that his mobile phone was hacked into and SMSes were sent to some IPL team owners asking them to fall in line, the cyber crime cell of the Chennai police registered a case and launched investigations .

     According to Srinivasan's complaint, a few IPL team owners had recently received an SMS from his number warning they too would face action because of their links with former IPL chief Lalit Modi. Srinivasan said in his complaint that he was shocked when he heard about the SMS. He said, he requested the team owners to send the SMS back to him and denied sending any such message, a cop said.

     Another police officer confirmed that Bangalore Royal Challengers, Mumbai Indians and another team owners recieved it.We are not sure if the message was recieved by only these three. But as these three team owners contacted Srinivasan after receiving the SMS, he came to know about the hacking, the officer said. We have approached a service provider in Mumbai to identify the origin of the SMS.We hope to receive the details in a day or two. Police said, "We are also in discussion with the technical team to narrow down on the hacker."

What might have actually happened?

      Cyber crime cell specialists think BCCI President Might be a victim of (SMS Attack) because hacker had send it at night. He might be a hacker who has the right tools and knows how to send a malicious text message capable of opening the web browser and taking to a harmful website. Once site opened, the site downloads a dirty exe file to your phone, then all the sensitive information like passwords will be in hackers database in the form of hashes then he can use tools like Encode/Decode Base64 to get the passwords, by this all types of sensitive information can also be hacked easily. These Attacks Are Mostly Carried out by sending Business Cards.

     The SOURCE for the above news is Times Of India. To send a prank SMS, there no need to hack a cell phone. There are many websites available through which you can send the prank SMS's. It's similar to email spoofing. We feel that this is not a case of CELL PHONE HACKING. Its actually  SMS's SPOOFING.

CWG official website protected from Pakistani and China hackers

      During the opening ceremony, hackers in Pakistan and China were hard at work trying to deface official Common Wealth Games website and disrupt data networks.

     Experts from the Dept. of IT had to keep a sharp vigil to prevent the hackers from either crashing sites or putting up demeaning messages intending to show India in poor light.The effort to foil the hackers intent on embarrassing India was no less intensive than on-ground security.

     The attacks were traced to servers in Pakistan and China. The exercise is suspected to have been monitored by official agencies in both countries, with the searchnet worm being the preferred weapon of attack.The attacks launched from China were the handiwork of students studying in technical institutes who are encouraged to take a go at targets identified by official agencies.Some of these universities are in close proximity to military establishments specializing in technical and IT-based offensive systems.

    There were hundreds of attacks on the CWG's official website which were intended to put up insulting messages while the more serious attempts were aimed at data management systems.

     Within a couple of hours of the opening ceremony of the mega event on October 3, hackers mostly traced to servers in China attacked the Games website, www.cwgdelhi 2010.org , forcing cyber security agencies to pay more attention to cyber security.

     Though the cyber attackers have been traced to Pakistan as well, most of the hackers servers were found to be located in China, said a top government official.

Set a System logo on ur XP Machine

The Windows XP System Properties logo is often changed by computer manufacturers. Hardware vendors use this general system information dialog to brand your computer with their own logo and support contact information.
In this tip you can learn how you can insert your own logo in the system properties dialog and complete it with your own contact information.
To invoke the system properties dialog, click the Start button, right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties".
This will open up your general system information dialog. On my Genuine Windows XP Desktop, the Windows XP System Properties logo looks like the image on the top. But trust me its totally fake (Modified by me).

If you want to put your own graphic in there, you should create your image in a .bmp graphic file. It's also a good idea to create this bitmap image with the same background shade of gray (RGB: 192, 192, 192) used in the Properties dialog. Otherwise, you risk letting Windows make its own judgments regarding color contrast and background shading.
The next thing to consider is the image size. The system properties dialog only offers enough real estate for an image of about 180 (wide) x120 (high) pixels. Make sure that you can fit your logo in this area. You can use IMAGE RESIZER POWERTOY available free to resize images according to your need.
Image resizer is a Windows Add-on Feature

Download it from here  Click here
Once you have created your logo and saved it as a .bmp file (Remember the extension "bmp" coz other extensions wont work), copy it over to the system32 subfolder of your Windows system folder. If you don't know where your system folder is :
  • Click the Start button and select "Run"
  • In the "open" field, enter "cmd" (without the quotes) and click ok
  • Windows will open up a dos command window
  • In the command window, type "set system" (without the quotes)
  • Look for the line that contains "SystemRoot", this is where your system directory is (generally, the Windows XP system folder is c:\windows)
Now that you know where your system folder is, copy your logo image file over to the system32 subfolder of your system folder. Then rename your logo image file to oemlogo.bmp

Additionally you can create a new file in this same folder and name the new file oeminfo.ini
In this file you can enter your contact information like in the example below :

-----------------------------------Copy Here---------------------------------
[General]
Manufacturer=Windows Help Central
Model=ShowCase
[Support Information]
Line1=" "
Line2=" For support, sales, upgrades or questions:"
Line3=""
Line4=" PC-Sneakers"
Line5=" Windows XP Tips and Tricks "
Line6=" India"
Line7=""
Line8=" +1 (888) 888-888 (voice)"
Line9=" +1 (888) 888-889 (fax)"
Line10=""
Line11=""
Line12=" http://www.easyhacks.tk"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Save and close the file and you are ready. From now on, if someone opens up the system properties dialog, your own Windows XP System Properties logo is in there.

Your Comments/Suggestions are most welcome

Restore Previously Open Folders After Shutdown

     There might be some folders which you access everyday. There is no need to open them manually after every login, shutdown or restarting your computer every time. A simple setting will automatically reload all the previously opened windows.

2) Go to Start >> Control Panel. >> Folder Options >> Click on View tab.

3) Under the Advanced setting section, tick mark the “Restore previous folder windows at logon” option and then click Ok.

4) Now when you restart your computer you will automatically open the previously opened folders from the same location as before.

Disable right - clicking on desktop

Its a very simple process:-

1) Open Registry editor.

2) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERS >> Software >> Microsoft >> Windows >> CurrentVersion >> Policies >> Explorer

3) Click on Explorer and in the right-side panel right-click and Create a new DWORD value named NoViewContextMenu(type it as it is) and set its value as 1.

Cleanup RAM using notepad

     Since all the Operating systems support Multiprocessing, hence require a good RAM speed.
Since all the current running processes are stored onto the RAM, it slows the system speed. So, we need to  freeup the RAM from unused junk data to Speedup the System or processing speed.
Its very easy.

1) Open notepad and type FreeMem=64000000

2) Save it as “CleanRAM.vbs” on desktop.

Note: Type the name of file along with inverted commas

Run the file and your RAM may be free.
      You can this edit the code in the file for a greater “cleaning-progress”.

For Eg.
FreeMem=1280000000
FreeMem=2560000000
FreeMem=5120000000
FreeMem=10240000000

Endless Command prompt windows

     This will continuously open up command prompt windows that will never end.
The basic idea is that there are two .bat files that open the other one when opened, so the other one opens the first one again and the windows just won’t stop coming.

How to do this:
1) Open notepad and type:     start 2.bat
2) Save it as 1.bat (make sure you choose all files when saving it)
3) Open new text document and type:    start 1.bat

All you have to do to start it is to click on either of them.

     A simple way to stop it is to wait for the windows to become so numerous that they are a group on the taskbar. Then, you can use Close group to get rid of these. Else you can also try closing from the task manager if you have a good idea of the processes.

    How to protect ur pc from Autorun.inf viruses??

         Once you open an infected pen-drive, the Autorun.inf gets copied and your machine also gets infected as well. However, there’s a very simple protection method that doesn’t require any third-party software. For that, you will have to enable viewing both hidden and protected files.

    1) You can do this simply by enabling the options from Folder Options as shown in the following image:

    2) Now, all system files will appear in Windows Explorer including autorun.inf. Autorun.inf works only when you open the external device. So, don’t use the open option from the Autorun menu

    3) Instead use the explore option from the context menu when you open the removable device you can see and delete autorun.in.

    4) In this way, you can protect your pc from Autorun.inf virus
